Pizza Rolls

The smell of baked pizza rolls will give you mouthwatering vibes! Still remember the first time when I served them to my friends at a movie night. There was nothing quite like the joy on their shining faces.

How many of you have experienced that happiness when you prepare something, cook, and bring the family to a single place? But first up is a quick and tasty Pizza Rolls recipe – perfect for any party!

Everyone loves to have pizza rolls; it is everyone’s flexible treat. They combine all the classic flavors of pizza in a fun little size that is perfect for parties, game nights, or just casual dining. It is designed to be easy and beginner-friendly while also open for creative customization.

The Ingredients of Pizza Rolls

To prepare these tasty pizza rolls, you will require these ingredients:

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1.5 tbsp yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp refined oil or olive oil
  • 1 cup of marinara sauce
  • 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup of pepperoni slices
  • 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp of Italian seasoning
  • Olive oil for brushing

Substitutions and Variations

Everyone has different dietary needs, and everyone likes to eat different things (for instance, I HATE pineapple, so there would be no even trade pizza rolls in our house). Here’s How to adjust this recipe to your taste preferences:

Gluten-Free Option:

This gluten-free pizza dough is for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. Wheat, barley, and rye contain a protein called gluten. Although it is worth mentioning, gluten can provoke digestive problems or irritations in certain people.

How to Use It:

  • Gluten-Free Dough: You can use gluten-free pizza dough instead of regular pizza dough. You can easily find it in most grocery stores. You can make it at home using gluten-free flour blends.
  • Texture: Gluten-free flours will yield a different texture. This flour has a texture unlike that of common flours. Not to mention, they will be a tad thicker or flakier, so just treat them carefully.

You want to be careful that the dough sheet is rolled out evenly, as when you place it in the fridge without a roll or two rolls, some areas close to where it is thickest get chilled, and other areas will get less cold.

  • Flavor: It will taste slightly different because of gluten-free flour instead of regular flour. Try switching brands or trying a homemade version. Then, pick the one you like most.

Vegetarian Option:

For those who adhere to the vegetarian lifestyle and love cheese or any other animal products, this is your best choice. Note for vegetarians and non-meat eaters: You can still make this pizza roll recipe without the use of any meat.

How to Use It:

  • Replace Pepperoni: Leave out the pepperoni in this recipe. Pepperoni is a meat pizza topping, duh. Consequently, stuff it with all sorts of delicious vegetable goodness. Some great choices include:
  • Bell Peppers: These brightly-hued and sweet vegetables can give your pizza a nice pop of color, as well as texture.
  • Mushrooms: Putting mushrooms on your pizza will give it a rich and savory umami flavor, which blends nicely with the melting cheese.

Olives: Adding a salty, briny taste to every bite of the pie.

Additional Tips:

You could also add fresh spinach for extra healthiness, zucchini to get some crunch, or sweet cherry tomatoes if you want more flavor. Pizza rolls taste better if you add several vegetables during the preparation—their nutritional content also improves instead.

Pros: Good for vegetarians, especially if you include more veggies in the rolls, and people who would enjoy adding a bit of vitamins to their food. Which makes it an excellent use for your leftover vegetables.

Non-Vegetarian Alternatives:

Also, non-vegetarians can alter pizza rolls. Here are some ideas:

  1. BBQ: Pulled chicken in BBQ sauce with red onions and cilantro, finished off with cheddar cheese.
  1. Buffalo Chicken: Buffalo chicken pizza rolls have a little spicy side. Ideal for those who like a bit of heat. Toss with buffalo sauce and bake. Use shredded chicken with it. Drizzle blue cheese or ranch onto the inside of the rolls. Be sure to serve them with extra buffalo sauce and a side of celery sticks.
  1. Ham and Pineapple(Hawaiian Style ): The traditional ham, pineapple pizza with a twist. Mozzarella, Marinara peel, and dice ham; fresh pineapple pulp — on the dough. You will feel like a real chef with a pinch of smoked paprika or chipotle powder.
  1. Shrimp Scampi: This is a delicious garlic buttery creamy shrimp. Be prepared to close your eyes and lick the plate! You only need some cooked shrimp, garlic butter sauce, parsley, parmesan cheese, and lemon juice. Then, we mixed the vegetables with white sauce or olive oil.
  1. Bacon and Mushroom: Mozzarella, country bacon, mushrooms with a touch of garlic cream sauce.
  1. Meat lovers: Meat lovers like to eat two or more meats in pizza rolls. Here is another different way that you can make meat pizza rolls. It’s a unique pizza with sausage, pepperoni, bacon bits, ham, and mozzarella cheese over marinara sauce& topped with Italian seasoning.
  1. Philly Cheesesteak: These Philly cheesesteak pizza rolls are a delicious spin on the classic sandwich. For this one, you will incorporate thin pieces of steak or roast beef. Then make julienne with bell pepper and onion and add some Worcestershire sauce. Top with Provolone or American cheese, and serve!

I will write it in detail if you like. 🤗

Tools and Equipment:

  • Rolling Pin: This is necessary to roll the dough smoothly and evenly.
  • Line a baking sheet: To make things less messy and make it easy for the dough not to stick, put parchment paper inside your baking tray.
  • Sharp knife: To make clean cuts without tearing the dough.

Instructions:

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Preheat the Oven:  Start by preheating your oven to 375°F, which is about the same as having it at around 190°C. And you can toss them in the oven as soon as your rolls are ready. Doing so makes your pizza rolls take less time to cook.

2. Prepare the Dough: You can use store-bought or make dough at home if you wish. I prefer it with homemade dough. For my pizza rolls recipe, I made a simple dough. You can try making it if you want, I promise you’ll love it.

  • Sieve 2 cups flour. Sift the flour well. All these things are very important, and sifting the flour is counted into that list. This is all you need because if there are grains or whatever in the dough, it will just fall off. It is also the best in getting pizza dough smooth.
  • Next, create a small gap in the dough. And 1.5 tbsp yeast, 1 tbsp sugar + a little water. After that, one tablespoon of salt and oil (refined or olive). Refined oil- 2 tbsp for this recipe.
  • Then, wet the dough a little and prepare it. Use warm water to make dough. This will help your dough be less stiff.
  • Now place the dough in a bowl on your tray and wrap it tightly with cling film. Allow dough to rest, covered for atleast 2 hours.
  • You will see that the dough has become puffed up after 2 hours. Knock out the dough and knead again. Roll variation pizza dough out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangular shape. It makes the bake more even if you get an evenly thick piece of dough.

3. Add the Fillings: Spread out all of your marinara evenly over the dough. Do not patch the edges entirely. Then, the mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices, and top with shredded Parmesan Cheese over our sauce. Top Italian seasoning for added flavor.

4. Roll the Dough: Gently knead, shape, and fold the dough into a large rectangle. Then carefully start rolling one of the long sides to meet at the center and do the same with the other side, making sure it forms tightly in the center so you will end up having a log shape as shown below. As you roll, use your fingers to pinch and close the seam so that the log stays together.

5. Slice the Rolls: With a sharp knife, cut into 1-inch pieces of your pinwheel roll. Place the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet such that they are not touching.

6. Brush with Olive Oil:  Brush the top of each species roll with olive oil. And yes, of course, it is important, as the oil works to give you a golden crispy finish over the top of these rolls when they are baked.

7. Bake: Place the rolls in them and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until done as per your oven(temp around375°F/190°C-400 °F/200°C). Watch them and check on them until they are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

8. Serve: Once you take the rolls out of the oven, let them cool on a wire rack for 5-10 minutes. It will make it easier to handle as they set up and firm up.

After they have cooled a little, you can serve them; however, if you want an even better experience, dip them in some warm marinara sauce. So you will get a dash of taste and juicy, saucy flavor in the meal. Enjoy!

Detailed Tips:

  • Rolling the Dough: Sometimes, the dough becomes sticky while rolling. Spread a little bit of dough on your hand and rolling pin. That way, the dough will not stick to your hands or rolling pin. When doing this, you need to handle the dough very gently so that it does not break.
  • Perfect Bake: Keep your eyes on the rolls in those last few minutes of baking. Since all ovens are different, you must adjust the baking time so it does not over-brown.

Health Benefits of Homemade Pizza Rolls:

For me, I love making pizza rolls at home. One of the best things is you can put whatever you want on. This is a big bonus if you are on a special diet or have any health goals to achieve.

For example, fibrous whole-grain flour will provide additional fiber, which is great for your digestive system. Throw some veggies on the top of your pizza rolls, and you’re also topping it with a ton of critical vitamins and minerals.

Health Considerations:

Let’s face it, while pizza rolls might be delicious — they’re certainly not good for you. Today, we are going to say YES in a perfect and deliciously healthy way with these pizza rolls that only have a few health considerations Here:

Use whole-grain pizza dough as it helps here better for a healthier supper. You can also choose a cheese made from skim milk or multiple cheeses to lower calorie and fat without suffering the actual taste.

Just remember to throw a little creativity into the works and jazz up your pizza rolls with family-friendly veggies like spinach, bell peppers, or tomatoes for added nutritional benefit. You can also experiment with different sauces, such as pesto, or use a light Alfredo sauce rather than the typical marinara.

This will help you create pizza rolls where your cravings are fulfilled while still keeping those goals in mind. A 2015 review published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine highlights that it’s not just what you eat but your approach towards eating those foods.
